I'm pregnant with my third baby. The birth with my second child was really awful, he was 9lbs (first baby was 6lbs) me and hubby both developed PTSD as confirmed by my consultant.

It was a big decision to have this baby, we wanted to have another chance at enjoying the baby stage which we didn't get to do with number 2.

I'm 29 weeks and the crippling anxiety has kicked in big time, I'm absolutely terrified this baby is going to be 9lbs + I'm getting to the point where I'm scared to eat - the growth scans aren't accurate (3lbs out last pregnancy!) And I'm just so scared of getting to 38/39 weeks, not being allowed induction and losing my mind giving birth.

Any advice would be highly appreciated!

Thank you

Hi Joanna, it's Sarah, Netmums' midwife here.

I'm so sorry you are feeling so anxious and that you experienced so much trauma in the past.

I would really recommend speaking to your midwife about your concerns, they will be able to refer you for consultant review and this may lead to additional scans etc to keep a close eye on your baby's growth.

Between the midwife and obstetrician they will also be able to work with you to put a plan in place for your labour and birth that makes you feel safe and happy.

I would also recommend you take an IAPT referral (https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/talking-therapies-medicine-treatments/talking-therapies-and-counselling/nhs-talking-therapies/) which will help you access services to manage your anxiety.

I hope this helps, do let us know how you get on.

Best wishes

Midwife Sarah
