So my oh has been vaping since 2020 claiming he was doing it to give up smoking but he vapes as if he just replaced it. He vapes whilst he's driving with kids in the car, he vapes out of bedroom window which I allowed in the summer but didn't necessarily want in the winter.

I always thought he would try to give up eventually so never actually pestered him about it. Tho his siblings and nan make comments on it.

Anyway on times when we have been tight and he has asked me to pick up Vape liquids for him when on way home from work and he gets short tempered if he goes without.

It concerns me that he hasn't given up or atleast tried

I've got really upset tonight as I asked him to atleast consider giving up or cutting down but he denies that its a problem blaming it on other things. Then says about how I shouldn't try to make him give up cos "people have tried and failed"

Has anybody got some experiences here where a partner has agreed to atleast try even if they didn't give up fully? That actually appreciated their partners feelings in this?

He lost his mum last year at the age of 69, I would have thought he wouldn't want to put his children and wife to be through the pain of losing him at a young age..

Honestly its his choice but he would not be doing it in house or out window he can stand outside if kids in car i would kick off too its not on he wants to damage himself he can carry on but not with kids inhaling also i would not be buying him any ever he wants it its his problem. I would looks on youtube and tictoc for videos of the consequences of vaping and send him repeatedly i have seen some horror stories he needs to be aware of on there he would be better off smoking. I would also tell him to do a will to protect your kids if he doesn't care about himself then he needs to grow up and have plans and protection in place for his kids. Ultimately the more you tell him to quit though he will probably do it more.

I don't think making him give up will do the trick. It needs to be his choice and keep going on about it will make him less likely to give up! BUT it would be a hard no on vaping in the car (with or without the kids in it) or the house! Just because he chooses to vape, it doesn't mean you all need to breathe it in. And it would only be his money spent on vapes and not yours or joint money!

I’ll be honest, I vape like a trooper, as does my husband! My logic (and I’m aware this is the logic of someone who’s addicted, but it’ll be similar logic to him) is that what you’re breathing out is the ingredients on my bottle of vape fluid are:

propylene glycol- (can find in most foods)

vegetable glycerin- (also in foods)

mixed fruits

aniseed and menthol flavouring

nicotine

The majority of the above we consume in foods anyway. I get the nicotine is addictive, but the kids arnt going to get addicted from second hand smoke? For me, I just don’t see vaping in the house or car as comparable to smoking which releases co2/tar etc?

Personally, it’s my one little vice, I work hard, my kids are loved and spoilt, I don’t drink, and whilst I’m aware it’s not a healthy habit, neither is wine, takeaway, chocolate, gambling, which plenty of people do. I wouldn’t begrudge him a nicotine hit 🙈

I didn't say I was making him. He said when he started vaping that his intention was to give up. Yh I get its his choice, however if he wants to Vape I thinks its a reasonable ask to go outside and not bring the cold in. Stand in garden as kids keep complaining its cold when he's leaving door wide open. And vaping when he leaves before getting into car etc.

My main concern is that if his addiction is causing him to get irritable with me and the kids then it's not fair on us just cos he's craving a hit!

So nicotine is in that list. Its addictive. U said so ourself u Vape like a trooper. I get people are addicted to other things. Myself mine is caffeine, as I drink alot of coca cola. But the difference is I have actively tried to give up that addiction rather than make excuses for myself.

I appreciate its healthier than actual tobacco but if its causing him to shout at me and the kids cos he hasn't got enough Vape liquid that's not our fault why should we have to stand for it. Equally why should we have to be cold cos of his addiction?

He's stopped smoking. Do you have any idea how difficult that is? To moan at him for vaping is ridiculous. Yes, it would be better for him to stop but how about some encouragement instead of nipping his head. If you don't want the cold to be let in then stop forcing him to go outside. It's vape fgs not smoke. I stopped smoking 5 weeks ago and if anyone got on at me now for vaping they'd be told in no uncertain terms to bog off. Give him a break, he's an adult not one of your kids. There's far worse addictions than vaping!

Is secondary vaping exposure dangerous? I don't think there has been any true studies that have supported the idea it may be dangerous.

Excuse me??? Wtaf! How bloody judgemental I'm sorry I'm thought this was supposed to be for support/advice. How is him going outside supposed to bring cold in? Better than standing in the door and actually bringing the cold in.. if he stands outside he can shut the door. I can tell what kind of person you are from this comment, the kind of person who make other people responsible for ur decisions.

Also he quit smoking 4 years ago.. he replaced it with an almost equal addiction. Like I have said to others I'm not forcing him to quit altogether I just wanted to see him cut down and stop putting us in a crap situation having to have car windows open, having to put up with being shouted at cos he couldn't forward plan to have enough Vape liquid!

Didn't say it was dangerous but in my own house/car I shouldn't have to have wind/rain blowing in
