The official advice on drinking Ribena in pregnancy

Great news! According to the Ribena website, all their products are safe to drink while you're pregnant. Ribena is a sweet and delicious juice drink that's rich in vitamin C.

Ribena benefits

  • One serving of Ribena has 80mg of vitamin C – which fulfils your recommended daily intake. The serve-size does depend on the pack though, so check the nutritional information on the label.
  • All Ribena drinks contain less than 5g of sugar per 100ml, when made up as instructed.
  • Ribena doesn't contain any artificial colours or sweeteners and is suitable for vegetarians and vegans to enjoy.
  • The classic taste is blackcurrant, but Ribena now comes in a variety of fruit flavours, including strawberry, raspberry and mango & lime.

However, it's worth noting that Ribena doesn't count as one of your five fruit and veg a day.

The NHS recommends eating a variety of fruit and vegetables in pregnancy. Having enough fruit and veg will give you and your growing baby the essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients you both need to stay healthy.

Ribena comes both in a ready-to-drink form and a squash for you to dilute at home. Check the pack before drinking and dilute with water if it says so. Drinking undiluted squash probably won't do you any long-term harm, but it's packed with sugar, and might give you an upset tummy.
