The official advice on eating pineapple in pregnancy

Good news! Pineapple is considered safe to eat in pregnancy. Drinking pineapple juice is fine, too.

The NHS recommends you eat plenty of fruit and vegetables when you're pregnant as they provide vitamins and minerals, plus fibre which can help with digestion and that all-too-common pregnancy complaint of constipation.

You may have heard rumours that pineapple brings on labour. This is because pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelain, which some people think could soften the cervix and bring on contractions.

However, there's little evidence of the effects, and it's thought you would have to eat a LOT of pineapple (like, at least seven whole pineapples) to have any effect beyond an upset stomach and diarrhoea.
