I keep reading about saving money by swapping name brands for non branded-already got rid of Heinz Beans for a supermarket brand, what else do you recommend?

For me it's the cereal, we like Crunchy Nut, the Aldi dupe tastes exactly the same and is half the price. BUT I have fussy kids so I have bought some plastic cereal containers and empty the boxes into them-then hide the boxes in the bottom of the recycing bin!

Pasta- the value spaghetti is made of exactly the same stuff as the expensive boxed stuff.

Oil- it all comes from the same vegetables/sunflowers/olives, so buy the cheapest version.

Biscuits- my ex wife and several of my friends work in a big biscuit factory (the one that makes jaffa cakes) and I can tell you quite honestly that the only difference between branded biscuits and supermarket own brands is that the latter are made on a different day with a different mould. The value ones sometimes have a little less sugar, but otherwise they're the same as well.

Potatoes- when you've boiled them and mashed them or deep fried them or roasted them, most people can't tell the difference between a Morrisons Wonky and an Arnold Bartlett.

We do similar- our "posh vodka" is supermarket own brand (and one relly has stated he's glad we buy decent vodka as he can't stand the cheap stuff!).

Meanwhile, after our Scouts protested against UHT milk (which we started buying due to storage issues and waste from fresh milk) because it "tastes horrible", we started pouring the UHT into (cleaned) fresh milk bottles. Apparently the milk was much nicer...
