I've been at a job I absolutely hate for a while now. I come home crying due to bullying, it's low paid, stressful and it's causing significant stress and health problems. I've currently been off and I can not face going back.

AlBU to email and say I will be leaving with immediate affect and apologise for not being able to fitful my notice period?

Speaking as an ex union rep-

If you are leaving due to bullying which has not been addressed by your employer, you should consult with your union rep (if you have one) or an employment lawyer, or ACAS and see if you have a case for claiming constructive dismissal.

Whether or not you can will depend on several factors, but it's worth looking into.

Other than that, no, it's not unreasonable to quit with immediate effect if you are being badly treated, but be aware that if you do so you may find it more difficult to claim certain benefits.

It isn't unreasonable to put your wellbeing first. Just make sure you can afford to so you aren't just swapping one stress for another!

Sorry, didn't mean to make that a direct reply, it sounds like I'm trying to argue but quite the opposite!

OP, I did similar recently. It was the best thing I could have done! But I did have some savings to fall back on if I needed them before I found something else luckily.

Hi,

Oh God… it is such a horrible place to be in.. Workplace bullying is vile, I hope you are ok.

It is always ok to look after yourself, and I have previously left a job without working my notice period due to bad bullying.

Just make sure you are looking after yourself.

I understand that it might have a financial impact, so if you have support around you (such as partner, husband, friends or family) just speak to them.

You can always speak to your GP if you feel the effect of bullying is affecting your life and your mental health.

Sending you hugs and wishing you the very best.

xx
