How to boil an egg, from runny to hard boiled

  • 2 eggs (medium)

  1. Fill a pan with cold water

  2. Put the eggs into the water and bring to boil

  3. As soon as the water starts to boil you need to start your stopwatch

  4. For a runny egg, time 3 minutes exactly from when the water starts to boil.

  5. For soft-boiled eggs, 4-5 minutes.

  6. For hard boiled, 7-10 minutes.

  7. Once cooked, remove the egg from boiling water and run under cold water

You will need

A large pan

A stopwatch or egg timer

Tips

Always start with your eggs at room temperature - this helps to avoid cracking and cuts the cooking time

Variations

Why not try different types of eggs? Duck eggs are great if you want something bigger and creamier. Alternatively, quail's eggs are tiny and perfect for adding to salads. Adjust the cooking times accordingly.
