Boiled egg and soldiers

Soft-boiled egg with crisp toast soldiers

  • 1-2 eggs

  • 2 slices bread

  • Butter, room temperature

  1. Fill a pan with cold water.

  2. Put the eggs into the water and bring to boil.

  3. As soon as the water starts to boil, start your stopwatch or timer.

  4. For a runny egg, time 3 minutes exactly from when the water starts to boil.

  5. For soft-boiled eggs, 4-5 minutes.

  6. Once the eggs are cooked, remove from the pan and briefly run under cold water.

  7. Meanwhile, toast the bread, butter then slice into soldiers.

  8. Place the eggs into egg cups, slice off the tops and serve with the soldiers to dip, plus a little salt and pepper to sprinkle onto the egg.

You will need

Large saucepan

Stopwatch or egg timer

Egg cups

Tips

Always start with your eggs at room temperature - this helps to avoid cracking and cuts the cooking time

Variations

Try a bit of Marmite on your soldiers. Delicious!

Try dipping steamed asparagus spears in your eggs instead of bread
