Things to do with kids in Oxford and Oxfordshire

Think of Oxford, and your mind will jump automatically to the university that dominates the city: the oldest in the English-speaking world. But that’s not all there is to offer ...

In fact, there’s a whole host of things to do with kids in Oxford and Oxfordshire, ranging from baby activities to venues and entertainers for unforgettable children's parties.

The city’s museums and galleries are famous the world over, including the Ashmolean, Modern Art Oxford and the Pitt Rivers Museum; the Story Museum is also well worth a visit for kids who love books.

The botanic garden, with its heated greenhouses, is a hidden gem in the city centre and a great place to explore on a chilly day, while in fairer weather, a trip along the River Cherwell by punt is a must.

Harry Potter fans will love wandering around Oxford and spotting film locations, and Blenheim Palace, also recognisable from many movies, is nearby.

Plus there’s a decent choice of family activities in the area, from bowling and cinema to spooky ghost tours, as well as some well-known car boot sales that draw big crowds every weekend: perfect if you've got stuff to sell, or love a second-hand bargain.
