The supermarket is pulling out all the stops to help families struggling amid a Cost of Living crisis

ASDA has announced a new initiative aimed at helping families beat the Cost of Living crisis.

The giant supermarket is to introduce free breakfasts for all customers who visit its cafes from now until next month.

And the popular scheme runs over half term!

Free breakfasts at ASDA

The supermarket will offer customers a free bowl of porridge and a hot drink for breakfast in any of its cafes over the next six weeks.

The offer, which is held in collaboration with Quaker Oats UK, began yesterday (7 February 2024) and will run until 20 March.

ASDA says it will apply to all 205 of its in-store cafes and that all ages can take advantage of the free breakfasts.

Including parents looking for a meal deal over the half term holiday.

It's hoped the initiative will help low-income customers with their post-Christmas finances and give them a warming meal when the weather outside drops.

What can customers get?

Customers will be able to enjoy a free bowl of porridge and a free tea, coffee or hot chocolate at any ASDA cafe until 20 March.

When will the scheme run?

The 'free breakfast' scheme is on now until 20 March 2024 and will run from 8am until 12pm every day.

'For those who need it most'

Gemma Rutter, Asda Cafe & Partnerships Buying Manager, said:

'It’s great to be partnering with Quaker to offer a free bowl of porridge in all of our Asda Cafés. We know that post-Christmas, along with the cold weather, customers feel an additional strain on household budgets as they continue to worry about how to keep themselves warm in the face of rising living costs and on a fixed income.

'We hope this initiative will prove impactful across the winter months for those who need it most.'

And Kris Comerford, Asda’s Chief Commercial Officer, said it would 'alleviate some of the pressures they face through rising living costs'.

What do shoppers think?

Many have praised the supermarket for its new initiative, with one calling it a 'brilliant idea'.

Another added:

'Well done Asda. It's a great idea. A lot of people will be very grateful.'

And a third wrote:

'What a great idea, lovely for youngsters to have a warm breakfast.'

What else is ASDA doing to help low-income customers?

It's not the only scheme that ASDA is offering currently.

The new initiative is running alongside the kids Eat for £1 scheme – also on during half term – where kids across England and Wales can eat for just £1 at any time of day in ASDA Cafés, seven days a week, with no minimum adult spend required.

Plus, the supermarket also offers its £1 Winter Warmers, which serves soup, a roll and a hot drink to over 60s for just a quid.
