About

For a fascinating day out, visit England's leading Museum of historic buildings and traditional rural life.

More than 45 original buildings have been rescued from destruction and rebuilt in a beautiful 50 acre parkland setting, bringing to life the homes, farms and workplaces of the south east over the past 500 years.

Watch the Shire horses at work; visit the working Tudor kitchen; relax by the lakeside; visit the café or picnic on many quiet spots around the site. The enchanting atmosphere and the historic collections mean that it’s a great day out for all the family.

Special events are held throughout the year, with hands-on children’s activities every half term and weekly during the summer holidays.

Sculpture Trail
The sculpture trail winds its way through the top section of the Museum’s 40-acre woodland site, just above the woodyard, and allows visitors to experience an enchanting walk, discovering various iron tree markers along the way. The iron tree markers were made by the British Artist Blacksmith Association and form an interesting ‘henge’ that helps visitors identify different types of trees in the weald and downland region.

We ALWAYS enjoy a trip here! Great place to take even small kids, as it's one museum they can run around! Also, good for taking any age visitors to (grandparents, other families, relatives from overseas - they will all have a wonderful time together). Go during school holidays for a range of hands-on activities (I think they charge a little for these). The kids won't even know they're learning about the 'olden days'! I first visited this place when I was about 7 yrs old (now a mum of 2) and I still remember the toilet in the farmhouse!!

Note: We advise you check these details are up-to-date before planning a visit.
